The now infamous “Energy Star” label is getting an overhaul. With virtually every appliance on the market today sealed with the energy efficient label, a new level of environmental stewardship is now needed.
The organization has decided the best way to revamp the labeling, is to have a regular “energy star” label and then a “energy start plus” label with would show the appliances that are even more energy efficient. Apparently only 5% of the current appliances that have the label would currently qualify for the new and improved label.
Many critics are suggesting that energy start simply revoke the label from the 95% of current appliances and up the ante with regards to the standards for the label. This would allow consumers to make easier purchasing decisions based on the label.
